2017 CEE Forum in Wrocław: Democracy, Academia and the Political

Wrocław, 27-28 April

Centre for Legal Education and Social Theory invites you to the participation in the 9TH CEE FORUM: Democracy, Academia and the Political, that will take place in Wrocław on April 27-28.

The Central and Eastern European Forum of Young Legal, Political and Social Theorists (CEE Forum) was founded in May 2009 at its inaugural conference held at the University of Silesia, Katowice, Poland. Since that time, the CEE Forum annual conferences were held in Budapest (2010), Belgrade (2011), Celje (2012), Greifswald (2013), Zagreb (2014), Sofia (2015) and again in Budapest (2016).

The CEE Forum is one of the most important platforms for cooperation of legal academics in Central Europe, alongside the more recently established Central and Eastern European Network of Legal Scholars (CEENELS) and the Central and Eastern European Network of Jurisprudence (CEENJ).

What makes the CEE Forum distinct from other similar initiatives is the fact that it takes a transdisciplinary approach, creating opportunities for cooperation not only among legal theorists and philosophers, but also political philosophers, political scientists, sociologists and social theorists.

This year’s 9th CEE Forum comes back to Poland and is hosted by the Centre for Legal Education and Social Theory (CLEST) at the Faculty of Law, Administration and Economics, University of Wrocław. The transdiscipinary approach of the CEE Forum harmonises with the aims of CLEST which include integration of legal academia with other social sciences and humanities, as well as with research on legal education. This year, we would like encourage reflection on the subject Democracy, Academia and the Political. Rapidly changing political and social conditions force the Academy to rethink its role. What is the responsibility of a scholar in democratic society? Is academic knowledge political? What kind of social relation should Academy enhance? Those are only a few questions we would like to challenge.
